Taken 12/06 by Scannerman Little Falls Gravel Plant, Herkimer County 'The Pierce Stone Company east of Little Falls began
in 1921 and worked into the 1930s furnishing crushed stone for surfacing roads.
The plant was built on an outcropping on an almost-vertical hillside. Huge
rectangular silos were perched on concrete walls over two rail tracks;
gravity-dump loading chutes filled 20 railroad hopper cars at once. Directly
north of present-day Route 5 is the quarry where the raw rock came from.' -
description from Scannerman. Scannerman
writes "This is one of the damdest things I've ever seen made out of
concrete--what a nightmare is must have been to work on this thing, all by
brute human and animal power, maybe with a steam crane... The above picture
is looking down into the two west silos--for lack of a better term. A
railroad spur ran underneath each silo, and 10 hopper cars would fit under
each one. There is an identical set of silos on the other side of the
building."
Edited overlay of previous photo showing where various
parts of the gravel plant would have been situated.
Top view map of the parts of the quarry as it would have looked when
running.
Picture of the plant as it was still being built.

Unknown small structure off from Game Farm Road, Brownville, Jefferson County,
as suggested by Eric H. Looks like it may have been a bridge or small dam.
Anyone know? Close-up;

05/10/11 Card Road, Jefferson County. A barn goes with
this but it looked like it was in use for cows and possibly hay or something
like that so photos were not taken of that. The lawn is mowed around the
house but it looks abandoned.
