Old bar/restaurant/roadhouse, southeast of the city of Buffalo, Erie County, near the main set of Railroad
tracks going east. On Genesee St. (Route 33), on the corner of Genesee and Wende.
The NYSDOC medium-strength prison, Wende Correctional Facility is a few miles
down that road. This two story building has a big wrap-around porch, an addition
in back, is big enough to have rented overnight rooms to truckers, etc.

Back side. CharlesB writes that there is an old iron swing set in the back and
wants to note the one small window on the west side – perhaps a cloak room?
There is also a field of barren grape vines across the road from the school.

CharlesB writes "The pole atop the front of the building is a little puzzling.
Your first thought is 'a flagpole'. Maybe not in 1859. There is a metal rod at
the end, so it may have served the purpose of a lightning rod."

Building of indeterminate use. CharlesB writes
that "Down the road a few hundred feet to the east sits an abandoned
building and across from it more vineyards." and "There are no signs indicating
what this building was built for or how it was, in actuality, used. Note the
covered front entrance and the boxy, utilitarian shape. I am guessing that it
was not built to be a private home – though it may have served as one. Both these structures sit on New York State 20
(Chautauqua
County), essentially surrounded
by vineyards that aren’t speaking. It doesn’t get more isolated in New York
State."
